first time since 1880
Pro-Life Democrat Darrell Aubertine won yesterday's special election for the 48th NYS Senate District. This is the first time a Democrat has held this seat since 1880.
Pro-Choice Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava was snubbed by party leadership, the old boy network wanted Pro-Choice Barclay. She would have won easily. Albany Republicans are not the sharpest.

I, for one, appreciate the help you gave in getting info out regarding the life/choice positions of the candidates. Thanks.
I heard a politician comment on the radio this morning that the results are being interpreted as a movement toward electing Democrats this year.
That may be a woeful misreading of what happened.
I think it was more an indication that the conservatives overwhelmingly voted pro-life over pro-choice, and it just happened to be in the form of a democratic candidate.
Not many know Scozzafava and Barclay are choicers. The people of Upstate NY are not easily fooled.
